I wanted to thank Shannan Boyer & Scooter Media (scootermediaco.com) for providing the tickets. It was a amazing experience and I hope to attend again next year!
We had taken my son Dave who is 11 and his friend Jack who is 10. They loved it. When we first arrived they were having a shootout. Each time a gun went off they jumped.
In the photo above he performed with whips and guns the show was so neat to see him do all the tricks. Both boys were amazed.
This was a gathering of some of the folks in the area in front of the jail.
This was one of the vendors to shop at. You could go inside to shop also. I ended up purchasing a Marshall Badge for Dave. They also had the old fashioned padlocks with keys so I got one for him and one for his friend Jack.
We enjoyed taking all the sites in and did lots of shopping. I could not believe how much bigger it was then I expected. Here is the list of places and just some of the things to do - * General Outfitting Store with gifts and souvenirs * Photo Emporium old time photos* Dry Goods and Clothing photo memories* G.M. Hoover leather works* F.C. Zimmerman vintage clothing* City Drug Store first aid & changing station* Tonsorial Parlour interactive shooting gallery* J. Collar toy guns and more* Alhambra Saloon gambling hall* Beatty & Kelley Restaurant*Panning gold & gems* The Mockingbird Theatre medicine show* Long Branch Saloon & Comique Theatre* Crafter Alley lots of goods for sale* Covered Wagon Rides* Union Church* Special Area Theme Weekend* Pony Rides* A & A Express Children's Train Rides* Chrisholm Trail Stage*
Above Dave wanted to shoot a gun. If you hit a target it made a noise.
Out of 5 targets he hit 3 so not too bad.
Dave walked into the jail cell. I had to snap a picture. If you pay $5 you can Send 'em to jail: Tell the Sheriff you want someone arrested & pay the $5 warrant fee. They'll trump up a keepsake warrant & throw 'em in the pokey. Jailbirds must negotiate their release with the local authorities.
The show above was a mini family circus. They juggled pins, ate fire, swallowed swords and more!
For us it took us about 3 1/2 hours each way to attend but it was worth the drive. Both boys want to go back next year. They even want to dress up to be part of the events. This will for sure be on our list of things to do next year. I only wish that we had something like this near us. As a parent it is hard to find good clean fun but this was & it even educational from a history standpoint. Thanks again to Shannan and Scooter Media (scootermediaco.com) for letting us be part of this!
Spectacular scenes like those of John Wayne and James
Stewart movies will be retold in live action this September as the Old
West Festival – a one-of-a-kind event in Ohio – rolls back into town at
its permanent site just 15 minutes from I-275, east of Cincinnati. The
sixth annual Old West Festival – running weekends September 7 to October
6 – will transform rambling acreage of beautiful country into an
authentic Dodge City Wild West town dating back to 1878. Come in your
best period attire. We have a patron "costume" contest each day in the
Long Branch Saloon at 1pm.
Visitors will be
stepping back in history to a time when famous lawmen like Bat
Masterson and Wyatt Earp reigned, where gamblers such as Doc Holliday
played faro and Boothill was a place you didn’t want to be at the end
of the night.
The permanent old west town is educational and fun
for the entire family. Store fronts include antique, western-themed and
hand-made crafts. Period interpreters walk the streets, posing for
photos or saying howdy. Cold beer, sarsaparilla, soft drinks and food
are served in the Long Branch Saloon. Young ‘uns can pan for gold;
watch puppet shows; participate in a family sing-along to period music
like ‘Coming Round the Mountain’; and even get sworn in as deputies,
that is if they take the official oath. It they choose, they’ll travel
the frontier in covered wagons, on ponies or horses; riding the 19th
century steam locomotive inspired Sante Fe Deadline, or visiting the
pioneer village. Historically accurate shows include medicine shows,
saloon shows, magic, storytelling and can can dancers. A variety of
bluegrass acts will be on stage throughout the day…and much more. There
are authentic jaw dropping gun fight reenactments by The Big Iron
Rangers daily.
Festival times and hours are Saturdays and Sundays
running September 7 to October 6 from 10 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The
Festival is located at 1449 Greenbush Cobb Rd, Williamsburg Ohio, 45176
between Mt. Orab and Williamsburg, Ohio just off St. Rt. 32.
Cost is $12 general admission; $6 for children ages 6 to 12; and children under 5 are free.
Just like in the REAL Dodge City...The Carrying of Firearms is strictly prohibited.
